Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist, journalist and author who has reported on conflict zones over the last more than 45 years. Her work focuses on human suffering as well as disasters. Curry has covered wars across the globe, including Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry, (born November 19th 1956, Agana American journalist and television news reporter and anchor who was most well-known for her role as a correspondent for the Today program, which was a morning news show that was telecast through the National Broadcasting Co. (NBC). Her reporting stood out for its coverage of humanitarian crises occurring in war-torn nations as well as natural disasters. Curry was born in Japan and was raised by an Japanese mother. Her father was an U.S. Navy sailor. Curry's parents met in Japan, where her father had been stationed following World War II. In the wake of her father's involvement as a military officer that they had to move around a lot. The family eventually settled in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. Curry graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon. Her exposure to a variety of cultures and experiences during her growing up years probably contributed to her empathy in her approach to global issues. Curry did not have the opportunity to go to a single school in the cities of San Diego, Alameda Oregon, or Virginia over the course of two years due to her family moved often. Ashland, Oregon is the location where Curry received her degree. In the role of an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon she began her career as a broadcaster. She was the first woman journalist for the station when she was just 22. Later, she became an anchor/reporter for KGW at Portland Oregon. In Los Angeles, she became a reporter on KCBS TV four years after having moved to the city. Two Emmy Awards were won during her six year association with TV station KCBS.
